What is In-home Documentary Photography? | laura ann photography, cary & raleigh family photographer

your life. documented.

Every family has a story.

You and your family are the characters. Your home is the setting. The plot winds and twists each and every day. Babies are born and quickly grow into their wrinkled skin. They turn into toddlers before your very eyes. Next thing you know, they are preschoolers making their own (often creative) clothing choices, making art of their own, building play forts, etc. They learn to jump, catch a ball, ride a bicycle ~ the list goes on. An in-home documentary session will document these important moments through images for you. This type of session aims to capture the sometimes less glamorous but oftentimes more meaningful things that are happening in your day-to-day life.

Allow me to show you what I mean - after all, I am a photographer. ;)

Remember when you first brought your newborn home and you would just rest with him on your chest. You were so tired, he was so tired, and it just felt good to hold him close...

Remember waiting for big sister to get home from school and he would spend the entire time rearranging the decor...

Remember how she rubbed her eyes when she was tired. (We actually used to count the yawns and when our son hit #3, we knew it was nap time)...

Remember how bright her smile was while she bounced around in her jump-a-roo without a care in the world...

Remember when she learned to walk and within days of that - to run...

Remember how there was actually a time where they liked each other and would play together for hours ...

Remember how he would squeal with delight when the dog gave him smooches...

Remember how she had to take out all the dolls (or cars or sippy cups or pots and pans) that she could find and play with them... and then leave them for you to clean up...

Remember story-time snuggles ...

Remember his carters pjs, his bed-head and how he had so much to say about the outdoors...

Remember her last morning in her crib before moving to a big-girl bed...

Remember how the Legos were EVERYWHERE - maybe they still are...

Remember when she learned to ride her bike without training wheels...

Remember how she would wait (sometimes patiently, sometimes not so much) for those tasty treats (that she was finally big enough to help you make) to finish baking...

Remember when you got that new puppy...

Remember how you could listen to him practice piano while you made dinner and he was actually REALLY good at it ...

Years from now, a glance at these images will bring you back to these everyday moments that are passing by too quickly.

Because these sessions happen in your home, where your children are most comfortable, they elicit the most natural expressions from them. Children can do what they do best - be themselves. And you will be able to remember now.
